Raised Garden Beds

The best way to start your new garden.

Choosing Raised Garden Beds

Why choose raised garden beds?

Raised beds are a great choice to elevate your garden so you don’t have to bend down as far to tend the garden. They are also a great choice when the existing soil conditions are unsuitable for gardening. Any type of soil can be brought in to fill the raised beds.

Raised garden beds usually don’t include a bottom because they are being set on the ground. Exceptions to this would be if the bed was going to be placed on a deck or patio.

Materials

In recent years there has been a shift towards organic gardening. Customers are more focused on what materials their raised beds are being built out of. For that reason most raised beds are built out of Cedar because it is 100% natural. Generally, there are two types of Cedar available to us here in the Northwest:

  • Western Red Cedar - Classic cedar color. Weathers to a medium gray.

  • Alaskan Yellow Cedar - Lighter color than Western Red Cedar. Weathers to a light, silver-grey.

Construction

All of the raised garden beds that Custom Cedar Works builds include the following:

  • Ceramic coated screws.

  • 2x4 braces in the corners and middle.

Trim is optional on all raised beds.
